Misery and Mirth

New Years & Da Killer Bacteria

Well with all the germs passing about from the other family members I finally got sick.  Friday Dec 28th it Started as a scratchy throat and full ear feeling so I started taking AIR BORNE to boost my immunity, but it got worse. I decided to just stay home for New Years Eve but after much whining and begging from Rob I gave in and spend half the week down there. Rob’s had Monday off because holiday and Tue and Wed are his usual days off.

So sunday afternoon, New Years Eve. I drove down. We spent the evening with a few friends, watched a movie, then the ball drop on TV. I brought Champagne so we had a New Years Champagne toast. That was the only alcohol Rob and I drank, though the other friends were enjoying an assortment of other alcohol beverages but they were all crashing there for the night.

Monday morning the flu or whatever had started kicking in pretty bad, by Tuesday my tonsils were so swollen that my throat was almost closing up and it was very painful. I kept alternating between hot tea and ice water to try and relive the pain and was taking a lot of ibuprophen. Rob bought me 3 kinds of throat drops, throat spray, cold medicines, Zinc lozenges and more Air Borne.  I wanted to go home and see my doctor but I was in no shape to drive. Rob didn’t want me to leave, he told me he’d take me to a doctor out there but I was in no mood to call around to find someone who took my insurance or to sit 6 hours in hospital waiting room when I’m pretty sure my insurance won’t cover that.

The week was mostly a blur of pain, sleeplessness. I was so out of it that I wasn’t making sure to take my Prilosec so after 2-3days of forgetting it my gallbladder started acting up again, even though I was hardly eating because they pain I started having nasty bile diarrhea and very angry tummy.  But I got that back under control, making sure to take all my meds, by Thursday afternoon I was ok enough to drive myself home.

Friday January 5th I spent catching up. Had to call and schedule appointments for the Lyphadema clinic and orthopedic. Tried all day to pre-register for my appointment with the dietician but could not get through the lines where down?  I see my primary on Monday so should be getting some antibiotics from her.  Everyone in the family in now on antibiotics seems it’s not really flu, because a virus would not last 2-3 weeks? So it’s some kind of bacterial infection.

Today Saturday Jan 6th I am feeling a little better, found the right combo of cold meds and pain relievers to cope. So now I’m catching up on my mountain of laundry , spending as much time as possible with Amber and Aaron before they leave.
