Phone Calls & Thanksgiving Shopping

Saturday November 18, 2006. I talked to Donna for quite a while today. She is a friend of my mothers but has also been one to me. I’ve known her since I was a young teen. Her daughter and I both attended a Christian Youth Organization. Donna and I bonded because we shared common obstacles dealing with physical disabilities. Donna contracted polio as a child and now suffers post polio syndrome including pain and severe mobility problems. She has been an ally and inspiration to me in dealing with my own disability. smile
Also talked to Amber today, Paul has contacted her and said he is getting leave time to come home from Iraq.  grin He is tentatively scheduled to be spending the week before Christmas with Amber and Aaron in North Carolina. So the rest of us in Michigan will not get to see him.  oh oh Therefore this week I am mailing out a massive box of edible goodies Mom and I picked up while shopping today.(I’ll be abusing Rob’s FedEx Discount, hehehe tongue wink ) It has taken about a month for him to receive the letters we’ve sent. So hopefully the package will arrive in Iraq and to him by Christmas.

Mom and I went to Big Lots and Wal-mart. I saw these gorgeous oriental tapestry keep sake boxes, one had a butterfly design so I picked it up as a Christmas gift for Melissa. We purchased all of the food items for Paul at Big Lots except for the Spicy Picante Ramen Noodles. (No wonder college kids eat so much Ramen it’s cheap. I bought a whole box of 24 for less than $2) . Also at Wal-Mart we picked up most of the supplies for Thanksgiving and Mom got a new Trac phone, pay as you go mobile type. Her old one died on her this month. I need to get a new phone too mine has been dead and obsolete for a couple months. A new mobile phone would be a more practically gift for my 30th Birthday than getting my 1st tattoo. cool smirk  But I want my 30th Birthday to be memorable; to do something unusual, to celebrate surviving this past year of immense struggles and modest triumphs.
