Red Wings Hockey & Celiacs Disease

This past Saturday September 30th I picked Rob up from work to go to a Red Wings hockey game and had to wait and wait as I witness the immense incompetence and laziness of his co-worker. One male employee refused to answer his cell and come in to work. The day before he asked the manager for the day off and the request was denied because no one could cover the shift at such short notice. Another female employee who had just clocked in spent almost an hour complaining about not wanting to work short handed instead of helping Rob so he could leave on time. I was getting pissed off; I did not want to be stuck in traffic or not be able to find a good parking space and be late for the game because of these selfish, inconsiderate, lazy @$#%#^!!! angry

Finally we got out of there, found our way to Joe Louis Arena and into a parking garage about a block down the street. There was a fenced open air parking lot right next to the arena but they wanted $30 to park there. The parking garage charged $15. We parked, walked the block and like 1000 stairs(which took me forever to climb) into the arena, grabbed an over priced pizza and soda from one of the Vendors and headed for our seats. Which was more stairs and was high up with no side railings, I got a little vertigo and was afraid I might fall but Rob kept a hold of me. But we made it to our seats with about 20 minutes to spare before the game started.

Because Rob has been to a few of these Hockey games and this was my 1st I had asked him if I needed to wear heavier “winter” cloths, he had told me, No it doesn’t get that cold.  But I did bring my jacket and was glad because it was quite chilly and we ended up cuddling under it because he started to shiver so badly. I guess that was one good thing about being SO Fat my jacket was big enough to warm us both.  tongue wink

It was a good game between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs. The Red Wings won 4 to 2. In the beginning of the game they were not scoring or passing very well at all and it seemed the Maple leafs would win so it was exciting to see the Wings get more coordinated, gain the lead and win. Also watching some of the crazy fans was quite amusing. LOL

Sunday October 1st, Rob went to work, his parents went to the flea market(s) and I slept in. I’ve been having problems actually being able to SLEEP in the same bed as Rob.
I can’t sleep soundly with someone holding on to me, especially since Rob twitches and sometimes talks in his sleep. Also I often have to change positions a lot when I sleep, if he’s there I can’t just roll over without waking up because I am too conscious of trying not to disturb him.
I spent the day mostly alone. I cleaned up the town house a bit, read, watched tv, talked to his Mom and just chilled until Rob got home. That eve we had pizza for dinner (Rob’s primary food group), went out for dessert and visited Melissa.

Monday I saw Dr. Nemeth, my primary physicians. She was checking my progression on the Metformin, insulin resistance medicine. She was pleased I lost almost 10 lbs in 2 weeks since I started it. We discussed my resent increase in fatigue and dark circles under my eyes. No matter how much sleep I get they have not gone away. They have been there for at least 2 weeks, likely longer. She ordered blood tests:  Complete Blood Count (CBC) that will show if I am anemic or platelets have dropped or possibly if I have an infection. Also she ordered antibody test for Celiacs (coeliacs) Disease. Which is another autoimmune illness.

Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, found in wheat, rye, and barley.

When people with celiac disease eat foods or use products containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the small intestine. The tiny, fingerlike protrusions lining the small intestine are damaged or destroyed. Called villi, they normally allow nutrients from food to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Without healthy villi, a person becomes malnourished, regardless of the quantity of food eaten

Malnourishment can cause all kinds of problems: pain, fatigue, weakness, osteoporosis, rashes, hair loss etc…

This could be why I am having vitamin deficiencies even though I take multivitamins/supplements most every day and explain some of the symptoms (pain, fatigue) that doctors can’t find a cause for.  Also Celiacs is often misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). I was diagnosed with IBS back in 1997, even though my doctor never did any testing.
But No need to jump the gun, It will be a few weeks before I know the results of blood tests and if I need to go to a gluten free lifestyle or keep pursuing answers.
